Description

The research topics of 2D Nanophotonics group are focused on light-matte interaction taking place in 2D materials.

The latter present slabs or (atomic) layers with the thickness significantly smaller than the wavelength of light in free space (such as graphene or monolayers/multilayers of van der Waals materials).

2D materials support a rich family polaritons, presenting collective dipolar oscillations coupled to electromagnetic fields.

Polaritons in 2D materials can give rise to very interesting and exotic phenomena, such as, for instance, light compression to deeply subwavelength volumes (nanofocusing), negative refraction, anomalous (hyperbolic) wavefronts, superlensing, strong coupling between light and molecules, etc.
